I've moved to a new area a few weeks ago! A nice big
city called "Jeonju" and famous for having delicious "Bibimbab" (비빔밥)
which I still have yet to eat here! But anyways, my new companion is
Elder Peterson from somewhere near Spanish Fork, Utah and who's been a
missionary about 7 months longer than me. We get along very well and
have an awesome ward here ('중앙 와드').<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Just last week, I
got my Christmas package! Yeah, not a typo, my Christmas package! I
guess it got lost in the mail somewhere and finally resurfaces 7 months
later! I also got some new white shirts from Mom, so those are super
nice! Compared to my other shirts they're just so white and clean!! I'm
really enjoying my new area and the missionaries in my zone are all
awesome!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Hope you all are doing well and what not!! Stay safe! Enjoy the rest of your summer!!!</div>

Sorry it's been so long since my last entry!! I had to
learn how to better prioritize my time!! Hope you are all doing well!<br />
<br />
<div>
Soooo to sum up the last little while:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am going on my sixth month in Nonsan ('논산'), a little country city kind of close to Daejeon. I am on my 9th week with my <b><i>super awesome</i></b> companion Elder Burton (he's included in this email list... ;) haha but really, he is awesome!)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In
our little branch of 25+ members (including the primary kids), 3 of the
kids were baptized last week! We went to the city Gongju ('공주') for
the baptism (because their building has a baptismal font!) and it was
such a sweet spirit filled experience!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Iw3xOobWQBY/VZLv2cIg71I/AAAAAAAAASg/sJSJvC6A7YA/s1600/P1020358%2528s%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Iw3xOobWQBY/VZLv2cIg71I/AAAAAAAAASg/sJSJvC6A7YA/s320/P1020358%2528s%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The rainy season started last week <i>in theory....</i>but
it still has only rained once! But it is pretty overcast a lot and
very, very humid!! I'm starting to keep my eyes peeled for new white
shirts at the stores because mine are starting to be quite worn out!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The rice fields are all planted and green and growing - along with all of the bugs that live out there too!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We're
learning how to be very creative in finding new investigators. We have
the belief now, that no idea is a bad idea until you've tried it! And
it's usually those new ideas that bring miracles and success. God knows
when we're really trying and makes up for our shortcomings!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k2np_4Kea4Y/VZLv2QJ0Z6I/AAAAAAAAASc/Af-XJpw1Fac/s1600/P1020399%2528s%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k2np_4Kea4Y/VZLv2QJ0Z6I/AAAAAAAAASc/Af-XJpw1Fac/s320/P1020399%2528s%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
We
saw a really cool miracle last week in a small countryish town in our
area called Buyeo ('부여'). We had effectively gotten ourselves lost
after we had gone for a while. But we found the bus stop that went back
into the city, and after waiting a little while, a car pulled up. The
woman and her husband in it asked where we were going and if we needed a
ride. As we talked to them in the car, we found out that the woman's
older sister is a member of the church in Daejeon. Although they didn't
have much interest in the gospel, we had a nice conversation and were
able to give them our number and tell them that if they ever needed
anything or wanted to learn about the church, to go right ahead and call
us and we'd love to help them. So that was a really cool miracle~!
God truly knows all of His children and where they are and what they're
doing. There are just too many 'coincidences' for them to be
coincidences :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I hope you all have a wonderful week and I want you all to know that I love you and I love this work! It truly is the Lord's!!<br />
</div>

On
Christmas day, after studying, we went over to a member's house and
spent the day with them. We had 6 American missionaries all skyping
home, and so we had to coordinate well with times and the few computers
available to us there. That was super fun (and kind of bizzare) to get
to see my family again! But I really felt super strong as soon as they
were on the camera, how much I love them all to death. In my 6 1/2
months of serving so far, I haven't seen or heard them, so it was so new
to talk to them again. Mom and Dad are just as awesome as ever! Holly
and Justin were, well, Holly & Justin. Roger is turning into too
much of a stud for his own good, and Henry was just as fun and energetic
as ever. It was literally the fastest hour of my life. Every time I
checked the clock, 10 minutes had gone by. Crazy! SO basically this is
their shoutout from me; that they're the best and I LOVE THEM!</div>

that was like the best thing ever! It's all gone now, but it was great

Now it's just cold...But that's okay because I have a scarf!<br />

Anyways,
this past week we had a baptismal service (last Monday) and it was
awesome! They were for 2 of our sisters' investigators. I was
requested to do a piano battle like I did a few months ago at another
baptism, and I went more for style rather than for actual skill. So it
was funny I think! Koreans really think vibrant American body language
and acting is super funny, so they really liked it!</div>

Also,
we had a mission tour. Elder Aoyagi of the 70 came to our mission and
we got to hear him and his wife speak to us. They're Japanese, so he
spoke in Japanese, which was then translated into Korean, and then
translated into English for the newer elders! So that was quite the
experience! 3 languages going on there! But that was a great
experience hearing from him and I was able to get some good personal
revelation!</div>

A couple
weeks ago for FHE (us missionaries in the ward do it with some members

didn't use spoons... We used chopsticks! ...So I guess we probably

Recently
we've gotten two new investigators who are absolutely awesome!!! We
gave them the English names of Spencer and Jason. They were both
referred to us by a member in the ward who was studying at BYU last year
(served a mission in Anaheim, CA a bit before that) and came back to
Korea to go to the military service cause it's required for Koreans.
But he's been here a few weeks and he got us these two amazing
investigators. People we couldn't have found or set things up the way
they are, without a member behind it. Member missionary work is SOOOO
important!!! (just wanted to put a plug in for that) Spencer wants to
learn English, wants to learn about the church and gospel, and wan'ts to
go on a mission of all things! Jason after talking with our member,
wants to go to BYU-Hawaii to study really really bad. So he wants to
get better at English with us and to work with us to strengthen his very
very small testimony and to become a member. They're super funny and
great to meet with! I love them soo much! Whenever we meet them, I
never want to transfer out of this area because they're just the best!!!
I have such high hopes for their progression!</div>

Wow I'm just such a slacker when it comes to the writing part of my blog entries. I promise it's not because I don't like you! (Well....maybe a lit- just kidding, just kidding!) It's just really hard to type everything in an hour time slot!<br />

Well let's see...how much have I not told you about.... We had a Halloween party! That was fun and it had a big turn out of church members and their friends and their (the friends) families. (I mean, yes the members' families too of course, but just to clarify I wanted to just-...well you get what I mean) For the party I dressed up as Draco Malfoy. Super easy costume for a blonde missionary with a green necktie. But slicking my hair back was a task! Elders Wagner and 박인오 had to both be in on it to help it work (even with a bunch of gel and hairspray!!)</div>

Jumping around here and there, one of the sisters in our ward leaves on her mission TODAY!!! (November 17th) Her name is 박유진 (so I guess like 'Yoo Jin Park' in English... you have no idea how hard romanization is; for Korean names especially!), and she's super cool! Fun fact about that, she will 귀환 (finish her mission) about 1 month before me! So, if my last area of my mission is back here, it'll be as if I never left to her, haha. She's going to the SLC Temple Square Mission. So if any of you are ever at Temple Square and see a Korean sister (there's only 3 of them counting her), you should talk to her and see if she knows me, cause hey, wouldn't that be legit?!</div>

We had transfers (about 2 weeks ago...) and I got a new companion! He's a Korean and his name is 하용식 (Ha Yong Shik). He's pretty cool! Everyone told me that your first Korean companion is really different and difficult. At first it didn't seem like it could be that different, but it really is. Not tooo much really, but just the feeling in the companionship and the way you do practically everything is just a little different than you're used too. The culture really does play a big part in all of the difference!</div>

We had a ward activity last-last Saturday, and it was a chilly kind muggyish day. And the first part of the activity was a 식사 (meal). So they fried 삼겹살 (Korean bacon) over a fire, had cuties and 감 (persimmons) and also lots of rice cookers. The cookers were just sitting out on these picnic tables and it was just sooo.....Korean. The second part of that activity was making pottery. All of us 10 missionaries in the ward wrote our names on the inside of our Ward Mission Leader's bowl, so that way he remembers us forever!!!</div>

So
this past week we got the chance to meet with some new investigators
that we found who have so much sincere interest and potential to grow in
the church. They like us and what we're doing, and the message that
we're sharing, which is so important. One of the guys named Kim Charles
(김 차르스) worked as a seaman on board a ship from when he was 19 to when
he was 30. So he has so many cool stories about that. He's in his
early 50s now, and works as a real estate agent with his wife at a cute
little shop. Family means the world to him (he has 5 siblings! 5!!! And
he's a Korean!) and he is just so sincere with us. And he speaks
English really well! Also, a guy we met on the street a little over a
week ago came to church yesterday and just loved it. It was the primary
program, which was so cute. They were little kids speaking Korean, so
it was really hard to understand a lot of it (how are little kids so
dang good at Korean?!). But the Spirit was really strong throughout the
whole thing, especially when they were singing. Music is one of the
most amazing gifts we've been given. I love it so much!</div>

This
week was busy, but good. Like usual, we're always going around place
to place, having appointments here, and having appointments cancel on us
(or just flat out not show up) there. And I love it! :) This work and
this church are true. It will bless the lives of all those who seek to
find the truth held in it, and for those who have found it, as they
continually live it and draw closer to their father in heaven and their
savior Jesus Christ. I know that this church is true, and that the Book
of Mormon is God's word; and through studying the words it contains, we
can find a peace and joy in this life that we didn't know we could ever
have. I love this work and wouldn't rather be doing anything else. And
I love all of you! Pray often to your Heavenly Father, search the
scriptures, and keep God's commandments. It will bless you life. Stay
safe and stay strong all of you! It's not easy, but it is worth it. I
testify of these things in Christ's name, Amen.</div>

Wow, first off general
conference was soooo amazing! It went by soooo soooo fast though!! So
in Korea, because their time is so much earlier than in America where
General Conference is held, they watch conference the following Saturday
and Sunday. All of us English speakers in the two wards that meet at
our building (missionaries and members) had our own little room set up
for conference with a TV. And it was so fun! I loved getting to hear
all of the different messages from the General Authorities. I really
loved the Saturday Morning Session. That was probably my favorite one. </div>

And now that conference has passed, it's suit-wearing weather in our
mission! From now until April, we're going to be wearing our suits
whenever we're doing missionary work; AKA, all the time! Luckily it's
not too stifling hot anymore, but the weather hasn't completely
transitioned to Fall yet. It's teetering on the fence. I can't wait
till it starts getting cool all the time outside!</div>

<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1413212923287_24484">
I
forgot to mention about 3 weeks ago when we had a baptismal service for
2 sisters. And one of them (이송이) asked me a few weeks in advance to
baptize her. And that was such an honor and such a spiritual
experience. Our ward missionary leader baptized the other sister. After
the baptismal service there was a mini 'talent show' kind of thing.
And Elder Wagner volunteered me to play piano in it. So Elder 박 and I
(he's insanely good at piano) had a 'piano battle.' We played a few
songs each going back and forth with the songs getting crazier and
crazier, and more and more complex the whole time. And while the other
person would play we would make fun of them to the audience. It was
really last minutely planned, but it turned out to be pretty comical and
funny! Now the ward members always come up to me and ask if I was the
one who played piano then, and tell me how good they think I am (this
even happened yesterday from our bishop's wife, haha). They're all so
sweet haha.</div>

This past
week we had a ward activity out in 나주 which is a more country-sidey area
next to ours. It was at a soccer field and it was really pretty fun.
The place looked a whole lot like Asia (probably because it is I
guess....). The best was when Elder Wagner found a football (a very
poorly made one, but a football nevertheless) that a member must have
brought, and we started passing it back and forth. The members were so
amazed at how well we could throw a football! They had no clue how to
throw it correctly and just kind of threw it like a baseball and it was
super funny. Let's just say, us Americans looked pretty snazzy throwing
the old pig-skin around!</div>

We
had an amazing lesson this week with one of our investigators named
권승천. He's fluent in Enlgish but we still teach him in Korean. He met
with some other missionaries about a year ago, but he works for the city
and got really busy. But we found him out of the area book and called
him and he wanted to meet. So this was our second lesson with him, and
we taught him the Gospel of Christ. The Spirit was incredibly strong
during the lesson. And he asked the most golden questions about
baptism. "Is baptism essential for my salvation?" "What if I were to
die right now; could I be saved?" We were able to explain and testify
about the necessity of baptism to him and he committed to be baptized
when he comes to know more. It was the best lesson I've been in.</div>

In
regards to Korean, I'm progressing a lot. Nowhere near that 'fluent'
level, but I pick up on a lot more of what people say (as in I know a
few of the words or feeling of what they're saying some of the time).
And I can speak a lot better when I teach. I'm able to teach all of the
lessons independently if I needed to without any Korean resources to
use as back-ups, so that's good! And I passed off our mission's Initial
Pass-off! Only 5 more levels to go! ;)</div>

off the face of the earth lately though and we haven't been able to

council) on Tuesday and so I went on a split with Elder 박 and Elder
Hogen. That was fun and interesting at the same time. Poor Elder 박 had
to deal with two 'greenies' for the day haha. The next day was

We got to teach a lot and I'm just about done with
my initial for pass-off which was the biggest struggle! I went on a
split this week with Elder Cowles and that was really fun! He taught me
how to 가가호호 (which is basically knocking doors) in a big apartment
building. And we found a cool little Buddhist building thing as we were
walking around too! </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I pulled out my Texas flag from my suitcase the
other day and it is now displayed above my bed (or it was till it fell
off the wall...). </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">It's been a pretty awesome week! I talked to a guy
and girl (the girl joined our conversation our of curiosity and to help
translate for both of us) on the back of a bus. I explained about and
gave him a Book of Mormon and got his number. I called him last night
to see when we could meet with him and that was a trip. Korean over
the phone, is entirely different from Korean in person! I had
absolutely no clue of a single word that he was saying. But my
companion helped out and hopefully we'll get to meet up with him this
week. He was a cool guy :) </span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">My missionary 'mom' (the oldest sister in
you first district) goes home this week which is crazy! She started her
mission back when I was a junior in high school!! Elder Cowles leaves
this week for his next and last area, and coincidentally enough, his
next companion is going to be Elder Murdoch, my MTC companion! Hahaha. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Wow, I've been in the country
for over a month now! I can hardly even believe that! The big holiday,

ran less often and had practically no one on them, and there were no
cars out practically anywhere! That is until the next day (make that
the next 2) when the streets were flooded with cars trying to go back
home. I heard that that's just because I'm in 광주 (Gwangju) which is a
pretty big city. Apparently when you're out in smaller little cities,
everything is completely deserted basically the whole time!</span></div>

This week Elder Wagner and I scored a desk for our house; now he doesn't have to use two filing cabinets pushed together for his desk anymore! We made a 광고 (an advertisement) for how we teach free English. We post those around our area all the time and people call and we can get new people to teach in that way. We walked down by a big soccer stadium in the southern part of our area and that was cool! It's got a huge Lotte Outlet store right next to it. Elder Wagner and I didn't know the store was there and first saw it from behind. And the back entrance is on the top of a hill, and it looks like a dinky little shop. But it was Lotte Outlets, so we were confused. We went in, and quickly discovered how huge it is!</div>

We had our interviews with President Shin that we have every two transfers. I'm one of those groups that just had an interview with president just a few weeks before this one. We got a new fan for the house, so now we aren't 'sharing' one with the other companionship (Elder Cowles and Elder 박) So that's something good! Because of the interviews, the APs stayed at our house for the night, and that was really fun!</div>

Elder Wagner and I met with one of his recent converts and helped him with some o<br />
f his essays for school that he has to write in Korean. We discovered that even though Elder Wagner and I both speak English, we have different writing styles. We finally just had to decide that both of our ways of writing was grammatically correct and completely fine, even if that's not how we would have written it. Who thought speaking English could get so dramatic?? ;)</div>

We went to a young single adults game night thing (all of us 10 missionaries) because we had some investigators going. At one point, some of the girls (not the sister missionaries!) danced to K-pop songs on the stage - cause dance competitions are normal in Korea and a lot of people do it as a hobby I guess. Hearing that music was so weird, cause it had like bass in it. Hahaha, but yeah!</div>

I went to the clothes store and bought multiple ties for super cheap! Korea! And according to the missionaries that I was with, they were like twice as much as ties you can find at other places (like 6000 원 [Won] instead of 3000 원) </div>

We discovered that in 광주 (Gwangju - my city) that every night in one part of town they have like a show that's like Disneyland's 'World of Color.' Of course it wasn't as impressive as at Disneyland at all, but it was still pretty impressive!</div>

This week I went on a split with our Zone Leader, Elder Allan. That was fun! We met with his investigators and he introduced me to two of his favorite drinks: 밀키스(Milkis) and 코코팜 (Coco Palm). One of his investigators was a Korean guy who lived in England for a little while and speaks really good English. And he had the best English accent ever! Ahh, it was like talking to a guy from England! Afterwards we went and had Whoppers at Burger King with him (they were only 3000원 each!). But before we decided to go, he said my favorite thing a Korean has said to me here. He asked: What do you fancy 우즈? (my name is in Korean. They say it like 'Ooh-juh') and it was in his sick accent and everything! It was awesome! The next day I had a little split with Elder Skinner, the assistant ZL and that was cool too! I had some good soup with him!</div>

We went to a 외국인 party on Saturday (me, Wagner, Skinner, and Allan) and met some cool people from all over. I talked to an Egyptian guy named Emad who was really cool! We talked some about the church and he told me some of the stuff he believed (he's Muslim) and stuff like that. We talked in English, and I realized just how hard teaching in English is! Because I don't have practice teaching simply in English, I went crazy with excitement, jumping from this topic, to this one and kind of confused him. If I could do it over again I would have taught much more simply. Korean really restricts me to teaching simply in a good way, but for those times I do teach in English I have to contain myself. But we're going to keep meeting him cause he's totally excited to do that. He called me Mr. Woods. It was so cool!</div>

Today is 추석 a big Korean holiday. It's like their equivalent of Thanksgiving in the US, but it's like Christmas in regards to just how big it is. This week went by super slow and extremely fast at the same time! I have no clue how! The days are over before I even know it! Especially with all of the time we spend studying and the extra time for training (cause I'm a little 'greenie').</div>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1408936933791_11988" style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br /></div>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1408936933791_11982" style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
Food is food here. I had my first Korean McDonald's this week. It's probably better than the McDonald's in America. It was literally the epitome of fast food. I ordered (in Korean of all languages! Whew!) and had my food within 15 seconds of paying for the food! I also ate at my first restaurant where you sit cross legged around a really short table. It wasn't too bad until I had to stand up, and then my legs were all messed up and cramped and what-not :P So I'm gonna have to get used to that over time! We had this there: raw(ish) cow meat, raw cow lung, raw cow liver, cow intestines, etc... Our investigator wanted to help introduce me to Korea. Next week apparently he has some other 'good food' in mind. Yay.... hahaha. The fruit here in Korea all tastes better too! Some things are a plus and others seem less so right now...But I'm sure I'll learn to love it!</div>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1408936933791_11984" style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
In my 인사 말씀 (welcome to ward short remarks) I may or may not have said that I have a boyfriend instead of a dad...sorry dad! I also almost walked off the stand before bearing my testimony too which was a little awkward. But it was all OK. The ward members are all great!</div>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1408936933791_11985" style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">

We played volleyball and basketball at stake activity and they all know Elder Wagner as the guy that's really good at basketball, and me as the guy really good at volleyball. And they take their sports seriously. When they play a sport, they literally "go big or go home." It's crazy and awesome! People (Americans) think my companion Elder Wagner looks like Chris Pine and he totally does! At first he didn't like it, but now he's starting to take it as a compliment.</div>

Depending on the night we get bitten a lot by mosquitos. Last night was really bad in our house! A whole lot of bites!</div>

Korea! We finished up the MTC stay by saying goodbye to all of our
super close friends going to the Busan mission, and then got packed up!
It took forever to pack everything! I finally got to bed around like
12:40AM and got up around 1:50AM to head off for the airport. I slept a
lot on the flights (but I'm still feeling the jet-lag even now). Half
the group going to Daejeon had a delayed first flight, so they missed
the connecting one headed to Incheon! So they had to stay the night in
San Francisco and fly up the next day.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
In Korea our first night we got into companionships with older and
experienced missionaries and hit the streets for a few hours proselyting
on the streets. I was with an Elder Andrews from Las Vegas, and while
most people weren't interested at all and just told us that they were
busy, there were a few who actually were interested and listened to us.
I understood nothing of what they said, but was able to bear my
testimony to them on the Book of Mormon and the church. And they
understood what I said!!! People know what I say when I speak
apparently, I just don't know what they say when they speak. Which is
kind of important...But that will hopefully come over time!</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />The next morning we went to a
Korean bath-house, which was the most relaxing place ever. Wasn't
weird like we thought it would be at all - even though there are naked
men walking around. But it was still pretty great! On Thursday, we had
a big transfer meeting where all the missionaries being assigned to new
areas for the most part, plus those about to go home all went. And
that's where we got assigned to our trainers. My trainer is a really
cool guy from Logan, Utah named Elder Wagner. He's been out on his
mission about 13 months now and his Korean is excellent (in my fresh
eyes at least). We got assigned to the 농성 area in southern South
Korea. Neither he nor I were in this area before and we have no
investigators to teach from the last companionship, so we're basically
starting fresh. We call it 'whitewashing'. We've been doing a lot of
stuff and we go to bed exhausted each night. </span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />We went to a baptism on
Sunday for Elder Wagner's last investigator (he used to be in 첨단 which
is really close to 농성 so we went to that ward). He's Sri Lankan
(however you spell that) and an amazing guy. It was so cool to meet him.
(in the picture, Elder Wagner has the pink tie with his arm around
Dinu)</span><br />

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />Overall, there's a lot of
walking and a lot of Koreans everywhere! We ride buses quite a bit to
get around because our area is so big, and that's pretty cool! (except
when it's jam-packed with people)</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />The food is definitely
different (some in a good way and quite a bit in a weird way) and my
body is doing its best to adjust! In all the aspects of mission life,
it's going to keep taking some adapting and adjusting. All in all,
time. Which is frustrating because of course I want to not be
floundering around as a newbie, but want to be used to all of this right
now! But it's a great experience for me overall. A very humbling one
to say the least! </span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />Hope you're all safe and doing great! Love you all! This week has certainly been the fastest and most exciting yet! Korea is coming up so fast! Last Friday, out 2 most 'veteran' districts got our flight plans in the mail! So the districts are divided up basically into half and half of each going to Daejeon and Busan. But on the flights to Korea, we all split up a bit. We're divided into 4 different groups: 2 Daejeon and 2 Busan. And each group is a mixture of the two different districts. My group is Daejeon 1, and they work about like this:<br />
</div>
</div>
D 1 - Report to the Travel Office 2:30AM Monday (Early!) and fly to San Francisco, and from there to Seoul Incheon Airport</div>
<br />
D 2 - Goes to SF as well, but flies out there 2 hours after us. Then we're all on the same flight to Korea</div>
<br />
B 1 - Another flight to SF a little after that. Then a different flight (much later) to a different Korean airport closer to Busan.</div>
<br />
B 2 - Flies to Dallas, TX. And from there to Korea. (That's a lot of flying!)</div>
<br />
It's weird to think that those people I've spent literally ALL of my time with the past 2 months are about to go different directions! I mean, relatively of course. All going to Korea, but you know what I mean. We're all super close and know all kinds of things about each other we forgot we had ever mentioned.</div>
<br />
The other day, I was basically like a super hero; the usual routine. After we finish eating in the cafeteria, we put our trays on a conveyor belt system that takes them back into the kitchen to get cleaned. And as I was walking out of that alcove area where that happens, the sister next to be remembers "My sister's letter was on that tray!" So I took off back in and snagged it off the tray right before it went back into the kitchen. So that's a pretty cool story!</div>
<br />
On Saturday we did our early morning service like we've done every week, and Elder Murdoch and I got to go and clean a neat little 'secret' office attached on the side of the building. In the room were a bunch of different blue-prints and layouts of the MTC! Including the tunnels that run underneath! It probably wasn't as big of a deal as we made it seem, but it was still pretty sweet!</div>
<br />
Since Sunday was Fast Sunday we had a special two hour mission conference. And sitting in front of me the whole time was a certain Elder Gardner (for those of you who didn't read last weeks blog (shame shame) that's my cousin that just got here a week ago). But I wasn't entirely sure it was him, but pretty confident. You know the feeling. So I didn't confirm until the end of the meeting. But yeah, right behind my cousin for 2 hours!<br />
</div>
Our devotional speaker that night was Kevin J. Worthen, the current president at BYU. A very accomplished man of course (aren't they all?). One thing the said that stood out to me was along these lines: "You received the authority of your calling when you were set apart. But your power in the priesthood comes from keeping the covenants you've made with Heavenly Father."<br />
</div>
On Tuesday night we heard from Elder Hathen (an Emeritus General Authority) and he and his wife talked about the power that we as missionaries can receive from the temple. We are given power and protection as long as we're keeping our covenants and God's commandments.<br />
</div>
We took our suits to the dry-cleaner drop-off on Monday, and should get them back tonight, so they look spiffy and clean for Korea. On Tuesday was Elder Nybo's (in our district) birthday! So that was a fun time. He's an awesome elder; super diligent and dedicated to learning and doing his best! We made him a birthday card and gave him a tie!<br />
</div>
Yesterday we had our LAST Wednesday service at the MTC! Mile-marker right there! Wow! As we've been getting so close to heading out to the field, some of us have been focusing on trying to memorize the First Vision in Korean. I've got the 1st verse down, and some of the 2nd, but it's tricky memorizing scriptures in another language! But it's slowly but surely coming along!<br />

Also on Wednesday, I saw another cousin of mine come into the MTC. Kaylene Awerkamp! We got a picture together- with Elder Murdoch included. At the MTC, you can't have pictures with just an elder and a sister as 'a couple,' even if they're your cousin! It was super cool to see her! It's especially cool because this is the best place she could be! The MTC is just absolutely incredible!<br />

But, next time you hear from me I'll be in Korea! Stay safe wherever you are and keep being awesome! Thanks for all of your support! Love you all!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09664735422709061517noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9132812186963033153.post-15693443414000483632014-07-31T11:00:00.002-07:002014-07-31T11:10:11.410-07:00Less Than 2 Weeks Left!<span style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">Last Thursday was Pioneer Day as many of you know (a very big deal in Utah - and much overlooked in Texas). It's basically like the 2nd biggest holiday in July (next to the 4th), so the MTC's store and mail center were closed, and so was the temple. So we had time to get naps in. I had enough to get a few hours of sleep, which was absolutely heavenly. That day we also went out to the MTC field and Elder Tucker and I played sand volleyball with the Japanese-bound missionaries. We got pretty close to them because the Korea and Japan going missionaries have about the exact same schedule here in the MTC. Then a lot of those Japanese missionaries took off for Tokyo early on Monday; which makes the week and half that I have left before I take off for Korea feel really short and makes me super excited! We have a countdown on our classroom's white-board that says : "</span><u style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">_11_</u><span style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"> 일 한국" (11 days Korea). It probably doesn't make much sense grammatically, but it hypes us all up a whole lot! Cause that number keeps dropping fast!</span><br />

On Friday we had TRC (teaching resource center) like we do each week (where we teach church members); and this time it was over Skype! Unfortunately, the sister Elder Murdoch and I skyped had an old version of Skype, so our video feeds weren't compatible. We couldn't see each other at all. So it was more like having a religious discussion/lesson over the phone, which was a pretty new experience for us as missionaries!</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
I got some pictures with some of those Japanese missionaries that left during our Sunday temple walk time, so that was good! They are all such incredibly fun and great people. They're going to do great in Japan (even though Korea is a little bit cooler....hahaha)</div>

Our Sunday night devotional speaker was Stephen B. Allen again. He talked a lot over how we can fulfill our missionary purpose. he basically broke it down like this:</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<b><u>HOW</u>:</b></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
1) Love God & love the people</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
2) Obey (don't second-guess the rules!)</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
3) Follow the Spirit (He literally knows everything)</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
4) Use the Book of Mormon</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
5) Get to know and use the members (get to know all of them well [ie. By name])</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
It was a great talk and he's a pretty funny guy. We were all laughing a lot during it, but the Spirit was definitely still there.</div>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1406821279342_27564" style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
On Tuesday night we heard from John H. Groberg and that was an incredible talk. He's the guy that the movie The Other Side of Heaven is about. Like, that's his story. So it was really cool to hear from him. He focused a lot on testimonies and why they are so important. He said this (roughly...), "The vibrations of your testimony cause the testimonies of others to respond and vibrate complimentary to it." He demonstrated this with tuning forks and how when one starts to vibrate near another that has a similar frequency, it will cause it to vibrate too. </div>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1406821279342_27564" style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br /></div>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1406821279342_27564" style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
This is what our testimonies can do for people. He gave us 6 examples of you we bear our testimonies. There are countless, but he used specifically these. That we bear testimony by:</div>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1406821279342_27676" style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<b>WHAT WE SAY</b></div>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1406821279342_27666" style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<b>WHAT WE DO</b></div>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1406821279342_27675" style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<b>WHAT WE SING</b></div>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1406821279342_27667" style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<b>WHEN/HOW WE PRAY</b></div>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1406821279342_27674" style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<b>WHAT WE WRITE</b></div>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1406821279342_27668" style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<b>WHO WE ARE</b></div>
<div id="yui_3_16_0_1_1406821279342_27673" style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">

If we bear our testimonies often and with conviction, the Spirit will stand by us and our testimonies WILL GROW.</div>

On Wednesday I got to see my cousin Ryan Gardner come into the MTC, going to the Vladivostok Russia Mission. That was awesome to see him. His host was an Elder Smith in my branch, and I ran into him (Elder Smith) while he was waiting for Elder Gardner to come back out of the building (where they get led through a maze of hallways and what-not to collect their new missionary stuff that they need). So I waited with him and when Elder Gardner came out we said hey, hugged, got a picture. Basically had the most precious moment ever ;) I'll probably get to see him around some more around the MTC. So that's exciting! In fact, I just saw him this morning! Haha</div>

The district of missionaries older than us (we always called them older just because they had been at the MTC longer, even though they were really about our ages for my batch of missionaries) departed for 한국 (Korea) Monday morning very early. They had to get up at 2:30ish I think...That's early! But we had a lot of good last moments together with the branch. They all had 'memory books' that we signed and wrote notes in. And they signed ours too! (How precious right??) The night before they left, we inherited a lot of stuff from them. Things like: a box full of popcorn packages, a Christmas tree, a bunch of Book of Mormon pictures, etc, etc...Basically a gold mine of stuff they inherited/couldn't fit in their suitcases.</span><br />

On Sunday night, our devotional speaker was T.C. Christensen. He is a big cinematographer guy behind a lot of the church films that we all have seen (17 Miracles, Testaments, Ephraim's Rescue, Life of a Stonecutter, etc...). So for his talk, he would show us a clip from one of the movies and talk about the history behind it and why they added it and just neat stuff about all of that. Something that he really emphasized on was how important journals are. There are so many facts about things in history (like the pioneer treks) that we just don't know much about at all because hardly anyone recorded those things. So remember, journals are more important than you realize!<br />

Our Tuesday night devotional we got to hear from Elder Ellis and his family. And I happened to know them from past experience (of living in the same ward as the oldest child my entire life....no biggy) so I made sure to sit up close. It was pretty weird to see Darrell and Joy Park at the MTC just a few rows up from me! They all gave good and different thoughts and messages about missionary work. I feel like each person I talked to had a different Ellis child's remarks stand out to them the most. It was definitely a unique format for a devotional; having each kid give remarks, and then hearing from the general authority and his wife. But it was great! The Spirit was strong and there seemed to me like there was a major focus on obedience and working our hardest. Sister Ellis told us: "Don't cheat yourself by just giving part." And Elder Ellis added onto that later by saying: "When you're completely exhausted at the end of your mission, your mission president can help you on the plane and then you can rest up; but while you're out, give your mission everything you've got."</div>

My district got to help with hosting the new missionaries again this week. We were assigned to help with the traffic, but they only needed 8 of us so I helped with the actual hosting again. This week we had a new crew of Korean missionaries going to the Daejeon and Busan missions which was pretty exciting! And so I was hoping to get some of them as my hosted missionaries and guess who I got?!? I had 2 missionaries who I asked where they were going to serve and told me, "I'm going to South......K........Carolina. And...UH! Not that there is anything wrong with that mission at all, it's a great mission! Just after looking forward to meeting someone that might be going to my mission and being my companion later it was a tiny let-down. But I had to make sure to not let that show like that!</div>
